July 2015

Dear Friends,
Time has passed since our last newsletter. EEW has undergone some changes in structure and in personnel. Ms. Khawla Rihani, EEW director, left the organization after many years in which she contributed to the growth of EEW and had a significant role in the success of our many programs, advancing economic empowerment of Jewish and Arab women in Israel. We wish her all the best.
Three women joined our staff: program coordinator for the north – Ms. Zinab Diab, program coordinator for the center of the country – Ms. Liora Mikdashi-Niazov, and most recently Ms. Dganit Luks joined as director of programs and development. We wish them success in their new positions.

As every year, we held our annual meeting and a board of directors was chosen, made up of professional women all dedicated to EEW and eager to contribute their expertise and time to advancing the organization.
We are facing a time of many requests and challenges from the field. We are beginning our work on our new strategic planning, continuing to develop programs and suiting them with the help of our facilitators to the needs of women and of small businesses today.
In this newsletter you will be able to read  about some of our recent activities and see pictures posted on our Facebook page and website.

Wishing you all a great summer,
Pnina Yalouz Yifrach, administrative coordinator

This month we began our business incubator in the Galilee. This long-term project, supported mostly by JP Morgan Foundation,  and in cooperation with Ma'avarim, is meant to help business owners in the Galilee, both EEW graduates and others, increase profits and develop their businesses. The First meeting took place on June 8th and both Jewish and Arab businesswomen participated. Some of the meetings will be separate in Hebrew and in Arabic and several joint, encouraging business networking and cooperation.

At the beginning of the year we celebrated 15 years of EEW activity at the Colony hotel in Haifa. In attendance were EEW founders, past and present board members, staff, Haifa Municipality representatives, Haifa program participants and graduates, and friends and supporters. The festivities included stories from founders and graduates and a film: "my enemy – my partner" with the director and one of the stars.

Several EEW supporters visited us during the past several months: In February Ms. Cherie Blair visited our Abu Gosh business incubator which the foundation she heads supports. Ms. Blair met with participants at the home of Samer Ibrahim who hosts groups in her unique historic family home. In March we were visited by representative of the Hadassah Foundation that has supported EEW since the beginning. They heard about our activity, met with graduates and visited our graduate Naomi Herschkowitz's stained glass studio and store. Representatives from the Jewish federation of St. Louis visited Dorit Gur's art Gallery and also heard about our activity during this past year.

Another "Business of one's own" program opened in Rishon Lezion with the help of Tchelet Goner, a social worker from the local welfare department. Much  of the success of our programs in Rishon is thanks to Tchelet's hard work. Last year she won a prize for her work and presented our program at the award ceremony. We are lucky to have such a dedicated partner.
